10 Amazing Tips for Traveling with Kids
I have a BIG family. I’m not just talking about my five kids. I also mean my four older siblings, my husband’s four younger siblings, plus a whole slew of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. And since my husband and I grew up across the country from each other, our family is spread all over the United States (and one in Europe!). We’re very blessed to be able to see our extended family as often as we do, but it usually means a lot of driving and flying to get where we’re going. Our kids are well seasoned travelers at this point, but there are a lot of ways…

Advice I Wish I’d Heard Before Having Kids…
Having a baby is scary business. Even after five, I still worry about…well…everything! There are so many ups and downs to parenting, it’s impossible to feel like you’ve got a grasp on every last detail. I worry about my kids’ sleep schedules, how they’re doing in school, if the baby has allergies, the amount of time I spend reading with them in the evenings, if I waited too long to start them in swim lessons. Literally everything is a concern to me! (Just one of the perks of parenting.) And it’s more than okay to worry (maybe don’t get quite so wrapped around the axle as I do…). However, there…

15 Ways to Offend a Mom
It seems everyone is offended these days. Sometimes it’s warranted. Sometimes it isn’t. But sometimes, someone says something so unbelievably rude and inconsiderate, everyone ought to be offended. I’ve been pregnant or breastfeeding on a repeat cycle for almost a decade now. In that time, I’ve had some amazing support from family, friends, and even strangers. But every once in a while, someone says something to me so outrageously insensitive (and even downright dumb), I can’t help but feel shocked and horrified. I mean, who hasn’t been there? You’re in line to check out at the grocery store and the woman behind you takes it upon herself to offer her…

Large family. Large blessings. Large mayhem.
Did you know that the average family size in the US for 2017 was 3.14 people? I know a lot of people who fit perfectly into that average family size (well, not that they have 14% of a person in their family, but you get my point!). Most of my friends have somewhere from 1 to 3 kids and they are perfectly content. And that is wonderful for them! I always had slightly different plans…. For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted six kids. (Seriously, I had six names picked out for my future children by the time I was twelve.) Four kids didn’t seem like enough, but…

You were made for greatness.
I’m a quote junkie. I have such a hard time articulating my own thoughts and feelings, so I often turn to others people’s words to do the job for me. I love quotes about anything and everything, but I especially love inspirational quotes. Some days you just need a little extra motivation to get you moving in the right direction and that’s exactly what i needed the other day. That’s how I came across this quote by Pope Benedict XVI. “The world offers you comfort, but you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.” Far too often I find myself being lazy in my life. I go…

Should I stay or should I go…back to work?
My husband and I met my sophomore year of college (19 years old! A couple of babies…). We dated long distance (I was in Washington and he was in California/Iraq) for the next 18 months and at the ripe old age of 21, we decided to get married. Our wedding was in the middle of my senior year and shortly thereafter we found out we were expecting our first baby. As a 21 year old college senior/newlywed, I was both elated and terrified. I knew I always wanted to be a mom, I just hadn’t planned on it happening quite that quickly. I graduated from college that May and moved…

Be kind. Always.
If there is one thing I’ve learned in the last year, it is to always be kind to yourself. I’m one of those people that feels everything. The high highs and the low lows. I absorb the energy and attitudes that other people give off. I do this because I’m paying attention to every detail of the people I surround myself with. I know when my kids have had a hard day at school the second they open the door and I’m immediately empathetic. I know when my spouse wakes up in the morning what kind of day he’ll have and adjust my behavior accordingly. But in my daily mania…

Hello world!
I know that blogging and running a website might seem second nature to a lot of people out there, but not to me. I’ve never been the most technologically advanced person, despite growing up in a very technologically advanced age. If I’m being totally honest, I still struggle starting a DVD for my kids! A quick bit about me: My name is Katrina and I am a stay-at-home mom to five amazing kids. I enjoy living on our small farm and the work that comes with it. My life is messy and wild and exactly what I’ve always dreamed of. So even though this blog is still in it’s infancy…
